NAME OF Event                      : Video Conference

DAY & DATE                           :1 October 2020

Bal Bharati Public School, Brij Vihar, Ghaziabad (India)Govt Girls Hr Sec School Kangan (India)

Module: Essentials of Dialogue: Human Trafficking

The students of Bal Bharati had a Video interface with students From Kangan. The Facilitator Mr Sagar Kaul conduced the discussion for theSchools.

The VC started with students from Bal Bharati speaking about the aspects of human trafficking and how it’s been prevalent in today's society. They spoke about how poverty and lack of education contributes in trafficking of young children all across the globe, pushing them into sex trade, bonded labour and human organ trade. A student also added that in some of the cases, the trafficker is someone who’s known to the family and how they take advantage of this trust by promising them lucrative jobs, taking them away and pushing them into illegal trade. Students also spoke about various aspects of human trafficking that we see in our daily lives. As examples they spoke about children who are pushed into working at factories, or begging on streets. Next we had students from Kangan who spoke on the topic. A student spoke about how people are lured through job ads and end up working in inhuman conditions. She gave an example of a female who didn’t come from a poor family but w anted to do something on her own. She applied for a job abroad and was selected. But once she landed in the country, she was pushed into sex trade. Another student gave an example of how girls from outside the valley are bought as paid brides for men who are not able to find a wife in their villages and how that also becomes a part of human trafficking. As a point of discussion, students were asked if they feel that conflict also plays a role in human trafficking. Students agreed that conflict is also one of the reasons for this evil and gave an example of Yemen and how the conflict has pushed a large population into poverty and how the people are being trafficked by giving false promises etc. Students from Kashmir also spoke about the conflict there and how it has slowly created an ecosystem from human traffickers to exploit the victims. Students asked questions based on what was discussed. By the end of the VC students gave their reflections. Students thanked each other for being honest about their experiences that they have seen around them and how it has affected them. Students also spoke about how topics like these need to be talked more about so that there’s more awareness on the issue. Learning Opportunities: It was wonderful to see students from both schools eager to speak and put their points forward in a respectful manner.

The Facilitator Mr Sagar Kaul conduced the discussion for the Schools.
